Proposed Federal Accreditation Regulations May Impact Accredited Programs

In April and May 2026, the United States Department of Education (“the Department”) convened negotiated rulemaking sessions focused on accreditation through an Accreditation, Innovation, and Modernization (AIM) committee. The purpose of these sessions was to evaluate the role of accreditation in higher education, including how it intersects with student outcomes, institutional accountability, and innovation.

Addendum on High-Stakes Testing 2024

Since the 2023 release of the ACEN position statement on the use of high-stakes testing in nursing education, many programs have verbalized concerns regarding current practices in their programs and if evaluation methods being utilized in their programs are considered high-stakes testing per the ACEN definition.
