Board of Commissioner Candidate
Nurse Educator Representative – Baccalaureate and Higher Degree
2017-2018 Ballot
Shellye Vardeman – Accreditation is a vital component of all nursing education programs. I am an experienced Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing program evaluator having served in this capacity for more than 5 years including serving as an accreditation Team Chair. In addition to my primary role as a nurse educator and RN-BSN/MSN track Coordinator, I continue clinical practice as a PRN staff nurse at a local hospital ICU. I maintain certifications as a Certified Nurse Educator and Board Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse.
Being one of the longest tenured members of the Troy University School of Nursing has allowed me to serve in multiple roles across virtually all of our nursing programs since beginning my University career as Lab Coordinator in 2001. I have taught courses in the pre-licensure BSN program, RN-BSN/MSN track, master’s program, and doctoral program. While working on my master’s degree, I gained education hours by teaching in the ASN program. I have a unique perspective having worked in varying program types that affords me insight that few others possess.
Active membership in professional organizations is an important component for all nurses. I have served as an officer of the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society for Nursing since 2001. I also serve STTI on the international level and was elected to the International Governance Committee in 2013. In addition, I was appointed the co-chair of the International Charter Review Taskforce which oversees granting chapters to universities around the world. In 2011, I served as a member of the International Bylaws Taskforce which reviews bylaws and makes recommendations to chapters worldwide. I also serve this organization on the regional level as a member of the Awards Committee and have served as our chapter’s delegate to the international conference on multiple occasions. Currently, I am serving as the chapter president for Troy University’s chapter of Phi Kappa Phi and was the delegate for the 2016 convention. I have been an officer in the organization since 2011. It would be a pleasure to serve ACEN, nurse educators, students, and other constituents as a member of the Board of Commissioners.
