Jorge L. Corchado is an Associate professor at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo from 1997 to the present. In addition is a consultant for EDP University of Puerto Rico, Inc. where he teach in the graduate program. He was born on July 25, 1965, at Isabela Puerto Rico as the last child of Pablo Corchado and Rosario Cruz. He was raised in San Sebastian Puerto Rico with three siblings, Rosa, Pablo and José.  Jorge is married to Damaris Trujillo and had two daughters, Aymara and Amy.

Jorge attended a public schools in Brooklyn, New York until the family moved to San Sebastián, PR after he had completed first grade. He then went to a public school in San Sebastian thru high school. He attended University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez from 1984 to 1988, graduating with a Bachelor in Science in Nursing.  After graduating he move to Rocky Hill Connecticut and worked in the State of Connecticut VH and Hospital as a staff nurse. Beginning in the fall of 1990, Jorge attended the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico at Ponce. He graduated in 1993 with an MSN degree in adult critical care nursing. After graduating he move to work at Philadelphia VA Medical Center at University City, PA for one and a half year until he moved to San Sebastián. He worked as a nursing general supervisor at San Carlos Hospital, and then became a faculty member in the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo (UPRA) BSN Program. In addition, in summer of 1999, Jorge attended Widener University at Chester PA. He graduated in 1997 with a PhD degree in nursing. At that time he was the only male and Hispanic student in the program.

He has serve as an Assistant on Special Assignments to the Chancellor, Director, of the Nursing Department, UPRA Administrative Board Member and Executive Secretary, UPRA Academic Senate, and President of the Institutional Academic Affair Committee.  He also serve as a Nursing Program Evaluator (site visitor) in the Council of Education of Puerto Rico; as a site visitor and the Evaluation Review Panel (ERP) on call for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

He serve as a consultant for nursing programs in the Island. He develop the only ER and Trauma graduate program in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Jorge became a member of International Sigma Theta Tau Eta Beta Chapter as a doctoral student at Widener University. He is affiliate with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses; the Honorable Word Academy in Education, Panamá, the International Health Confederation, Lima, Perú; the Latin America Council in Honor to the Quality of Education, Lima, Perú; the National League for Nursing, and the Phi Delta Kappa International. He had spoken at different congress and summits in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panamá, Perú, and Ecuador. Has presented in the STTI conference at Maryland, and a poster presentation at MD Anderson Medical Center, Tx. He has serve for more than 25 thesis director.

He has won several award for his nursing and educational career. That include a Doctor Honoris Causa from the Honorable Word Academy in Education (2010); a Doctor Honoris Causa in Health Science from the International Health Confederation, Lima, Perú (2009); World Leaders in Health Care Award,  2008-2009 from the International Health Confederation, Lima, Perú (2008); Doctor Honoris Causa of Latin America from the Latin America Council in Honor to the Quality of Education, Quayaquil, Ecuador (2008); Honorary Master in Education Management of Latin America (2008); The highest nursing education award in PR, the Celia Guzmán Excellence in Nursing Award (2007); and the Excellence in Nursing St. of CT Veteran Home and Hospital (1989).
