The ACEN is seeking applicants for the following position:

This position affords an opportunity for a qualified and experienced nurse educator or administrator to work with nursing education faculty to advance excellence, accountability, and continuous quality improvement in all types of nursing education programs.

The Director is a member of the ACEN professional nursing staff, appointed by and reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Director is a liaison for and interfaces with faculty and program administrators of currently accredited nursing education programs and transition to practice programs as well as nursing education programs and transition to practice programs seeking initial accreditation with the ACEN. The Director is a resource for facilitating the interpretation and understanding of ACEN policies, processes, and the Standards and Criteria


Multiple and various undertakings for all types of nursing education programs and transition to practice programs including but not limited to:

  • Promoting the benefits of accreditation and the services provided by the ACEN
  • Supporting/mentoring faculty and program leaders of programs seeking initial and continuing accreditation
  • Participating in assigned processes for programs seeking initial accreditation
  • Participating in assigned processes for programs seeking continuing accreditation
  • Reviewing and editing written documents (e.g., Accreditation Manual, Guidelines, team reports from peer evaluators)
  • Maintaining accurate and current information in ACEN’s data management system by contributing to the collection, recording, and integrity of data
  • Participating in assigned processes related to Evaluation Review Panels (ERP) planning and implementation
  • Participating in the selection of new peer evaluators, team chairs, ERP members, appeal committee members as well as evaluation of their performance
  • Maintaining knowledge of accreditation cycles and processes
  • Developing and delivering training materials
  • Conducting advisory reviews
  • Participating in ACEN events (e.g., annual accreditation conference, forums, workshops)
  • Participating in cross departmental meetings and training
  • Participating in development of Annual Report
  • Collaborating with the Substantive Change Coordinator as needed
  • Participating on site visits as needed (e.g., advisor, team chair, team member) as assigned by CEO
  • Attending Board of Commissioner meetings as invited/assigned by CEO
  • Presenting at conferences and/or representing the ACEN as assigned by CEO
  • Reviewing proposals (e.g., policy changes) as assigned by CEO
  • Participating in USDE, CHEA, and ANCC recognition petition/report/processes as assigned by CEO
  • Participating in the review and revision of Standards and Criteria as assigned by CEO
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution; doctorate in any field preferred
  • Current knowledge of educational practice and nursing practice
  • Teaching and/or administrative experience in higher education
  • Substantial knowledge of and experience with accreditation processes
  • Effective, professional written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Sound judgment and ability to keep confidentiality
  • Responsible, flexible, reliable, and dependable
  • Polished, professional demeanor
  • Computer proficient (e.g., MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Slack, Jira); experience with Salesforce preferred

The Director is a salaried, exempt position. Occasional evenings/weekends assignments. Domestic and international travel required.

The ACEN requires evidence of being fully vaccinated and boosted with an FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine prior to beginning employment.
