Nurse Educator Representative – Associate

Cathy McJannet has served with ACEN since 2010 in a variety of roles including Program Evaluator, Team Chair, and as a member of the Evaluation Review Panel. She is just completing her third year of her 2014-2017 term. Mrs. McJannet has served in various capacities, and on several committees while on the Board, and is currently the Chair of the Board of Commissioners.
Mrs. McJannet has been affiliated with Southwestern Community College, San Diego, since 1995. She served as nursing faculty in the Associate Degree Nursing Program, and Department Chair of Nursing prior to being appointed as the Director of Nursing and Health Occupations in 2007. She oversees eight programs with approximately forty faculty, staff and 450 students. Mrs. McJannet has been formally engaged in nursing education in the academic setting, as well as in the clinical setting, for more than thirty years. She maintains currency in the profession while working several times per month as an emergency department staff nurse in a local healthcare facility. Her career path has been diverse, but education has always been a primary theme as she served in the military, and for a number of healthcare facilities before commencing her college academic career in 1995.
Mrs. McJannet began her nursing career as a diploma nurse, and her graduate degree was focused in nursing education. Her passion is nursing education, and she is most proud of winning two teaching excellence awards. She received a Leadership award from the Association of California Nurse Leaders for her work in bridging the gap between academia and industry. She has received the national CEN award from the Emergency Nursing Association, was awarded Administrator of the Year award from Southwestern College, and will be presented with a Soroptimist Legend award for a lifetime of community service in April, 2017.
She is an active participant of a number of professional associations including Emergency Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, Association of California Nurse Leaders, and California Organization of Associate Degree Nursing Program Directors.
