Per ACEN Policy #11 Public Notice of Proposed Policy Changes, the ACEN is providing notice of proposed revisions to Policy #3, #4, #14, #24. Interested parties have the opportunity to offer comments from September 17, 2018 to October 17, 2018.

1. POLICY #34 CANDIDACY FOR A GOVERNING ORGANIZATION/NURSING PROGRAM SEEKING INITIAL ACCREDIATATION

Rationale for Policy #34: On July 25, 2018, the United States Department of Education (USDE) issued a memo clarify that accrediting agencies may grant retroactive initial accreditation to the date on which the program was permitted to pursue accredited status. Proposed new Policy #34 offers information and transparency to constituents and institutions/programs seeking initial accreditation with the ACEN.

2. POLICY #3 ELIGIBILITY FOR INITIAL AND CONTINUING ACCREDITATION

Rationale for Changes to Policy #3: The proposed changes to Policy #3 offer constituents information for institutions/programs seeking initial and continuing accreditation with the ACEN. Many of the proposed changes:

  1. Were prompted by the July 25, 2018, USDE memo clarifying that accrediting agencies may grant retroactive initial accreditation to the date on which the program was permitted to pursue accredited status
  2. Offer transparency and clarity for programs seeking initial and continuing accreditation
  3. Align Policy #3 with Policy #4 and #34

3. POLICY #4 TYPES OF COMMISSION ACTIONS FOR INITIAL AND CONTINUING ACCREDITATION

Rationale for Changes to Policy #4: The proposed changes to Policy #4 align Policy #4 with Policies #3 and #34.

4. POLICY #14 REPORTING SUBSTANTIVE CHANGES

Rationale for Change to Policy #14: The proposed changes to Policy #14 streamline and clarify the reporting of substantive changes to the ACEN.

5. POLICY #24 ASSESSMENT OF THE ADEQUACY OF STANDARDS AND CRITERIA, ACEN PROCESS, AND PRACTICES

Rationale for Change to Policy #24: The proposed changes to Policy #24 streamline the mandatory information that must be reported to the ACEN.
