Janet Y. Harris, DNP, RN, NEA-BC
Janet Harris has 38 years of nursing experience, most of which has been in management at University of Mississippi Medical Center and Baptist Health Systems. She worked for over eight years as a national consultant for Cardinal Health and served as the National Director of Nursing Professional Services. Janet returned to the University of Mississippi in 2007 as the Chief Nursing Executive Officer of the System and now also serves as CNO and Interim CEO for the University Hospital. She is adjunct faculty in the DNP program in the UMMC School of Nursing and is a student in the DNP program, executive track, at the University of Pittsburgh.
Active for many years in community and professional organizations, Janet recently completed four years on the Congress of Nursing Practice and Economics and as a Magnet Commissioner with ANCC. She is a past President of the Mississippi Nurses’ Association and has been active in AONE, serving on the Bylaws Committee, Patient Care Delivery Model Task Force, Patient Safety Committee, Institute Operations Committee, and Hospital Pursuit of Excellence Committee. She currently serves on the AONE Professional Practice Policy Committee. Janet has numerous awards to her credit including Alumnus of the Decade (1980s) for the UMC School of Nursing and the Nurse Executive Recognition Award from the Mississippi Hospital Association. She was recently named one of Mississippi’s Top 50 Businesswomen. Recent publications include a chapter, with Mary Scott, on “Organizational Design” in Nursing Management: Principles and Practice and co-author of “Empirical Outcomes” in Magnet: The Next Generation-Nurses Making the Difference.
